Revision Of Food Law, DPR Highlights Innovation To Local Food Culture

JAKARTA - Member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives Firman Soebagyo, highlighted the importance of food innovation, food substitution, and cultivating local food in the Revision of the Food Law. He also emphasized the importance of understanding food from a wider aspect, not only rice as staple food.

Firman said, there are several important points regarding the revision of the Food Law. First, food is not only about rice, but also about other food diversification.

Second, the revision of the Food Law encourages food innovation to improve the quality and quantity of food.

"Therefore, the importance of food substitution is to reduce dependence on certain foods," Firman told reporters, Friday, November 21.

Firman also encouraged the development and preservation of local foods as part of the culture and identity of the community. The Golkar legislator from the Central Java III electoral district assessed that by understanding food from a wider aspect, it is hoped that it can increase food diversification and reduce dependence on certain foods.

"Food innovation and food substitution can improve food quality and improve public health," he said.

This member of the DPR Baleg hopes that by cultivating local food, culture and identity, the dait community will be preserved.

"So, it is important to understand food from a wider aspect and encourage innovation, substitution, and preservation of local foods," he concluded.
