Minister Of Public Works And Pramono Agree To Continue Normalization Of The Ciliwung River Next Year
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) together with the Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta held river crossing and river cleaning activities along the Ciliwung River from MT Haryono to Inlet Sodetan Ciliwung (East Flood Canal), today.
The river crossing and cleaning activities of the Ciliwung River were held to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Ministry of Public Works.
Also present were Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti and staff of the Ministry of Public Works and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
In the event, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government together with the Ministry of Public Works confirmed that they would immediately normalize the Ciliwung River and Krukut River starting next year.
"We report that next year we will continue the normalization work of Ciliwung has not been completed and Krukut River is because these two rivers have contributed to congestion in Jakarta," Pramono said in his opening remarks for the 80th Public Works Service Day (PU) series on the banks of the Ciliwung River, Jakarta, Friday, November 21.
Pramono said, the normalization of the Ciliwung River is already in the stage of land acquisition which is expected to be completed in early 2026.
Land acquisition is carried out by the DKI Provincial Government, while the construction of the embankment is carried out by the Ministry of Public Works. In addition, the DKI Provincial Government will also immediately normalize or clean up Krukut River along the 1.3 kilometers.
"We ask for permission and at the same time we will start immediately. We will continue to care for several other places, such as the Pesanggrahan River, we dredge it and several other rivers," he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Public Works (PU) Dody Hanggodo also appreciated Pramono's steps which were considered proactive in handling rivers in the capital city. According to him, the success of normalization will be greatly determined by regional support in land supply.
"What the Governor has done is very, very good. If we need our support, God willing, we will fully support it," he explained.
The Ministry of Public Works's activities of cleaning the Ciliwung River on Friday opened a series of 80th Bakti Day (kick-offs) with the theme "Criminal Infrastructure, Prosperous People, Advanced Indonesia".
The Ciliwung river is 2.5 kilometers away with a travel time of about 20 minutes.
The clean and healthy activities of the river are expected to be the foundation of good water management, as emphasized in Law Number 17 of 2019, which frames three major pillars, namely, conservation of water resources, utilization of water resources and water damaged power control.
