Transportation Rates Discount Applies Today, Minister Of Transportation Asks Residents Not To Postpone Travel Plans

JAKARTA - The government has officially imposed a discount on transportation rates for the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 (Nataru) holiday periods starting today. This cross-mode stimulus is not only designed to reduce travel costs, but at the same time drive the economy at the end of the year.

The Nataru tariff discount stimulus has been determined through a Joint Decree (SKB) of four Ministers/Heads of the Agency, namely the Minister of Transportation, Minister of Finance, BP BUMN, and BPI Danantara.

SKB Number PJ-MHB 9 of 2025, Number 303.2 of 2025, Number 20 of 2025, and Number SKB.10/DI-BP/X/2025 dated October 28, 2025, regulates assignments to SOEs in the transportation sector to provide tariff discounts on sea transportation, crossings, and trains.

Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi also invited the public to immediately take advantage of the stimulus. He also asked residents to plan their trip early.

"We invite the public to use and optimize this stimulus in traveling during the Nataru period," said Dudy in an official statement, Friday, November 21.

Dudy said this policy was a direct direction for President Prabowo Subianto to maintain purchasing power and ensure mobility services remained affordable for the community.

"This tariff discount stimulus is given so that people can travel at a lighter cost without reducing the safety and quality aspects of service," he said.

Dudy said, the tariff discount will take effect at 00.01 today. For trains and crossings, tariff cuts are applied on December 22, 2025 to January 10, 2026. Meanwhile, sea transportation gets a longer period, namely December 17, 2025 to January 10, 2026.

"This policy continued the previous program in the form of reducing flight ticket rates by 13 to 14 percent which came into effect since the end of October, in line with the issuance of Minister of Finance Regulation Number 71 of 2025 concerning Government Borne VAT (DTP) for air transportation services. The target is 3.59 million passengers can enjoy discounted air transportation rates," said Dudy.

On the train mode, continued Dudy, the government provides a 30 percent discount for commercial economic train tickets. This policy includes 156 regular trips and 26 additional trips, with a target of 1,509,080 passengers.

On sea transportation, a discount of 20 percent of the basic tariff is given to 405,881 inter-island economy class passengers. The discount is equivalent to a discount of 16 to 18 percent of the total ticket price.

Meanwhile, for crossings, the government provides free port service rates or the equivalent of a 19 percent discount from integrated fares. This program covers 8 routes in 16 ports, with a target of 227,560 passengers and 491,776 vehicles.

Dudy ensured the readiness of transportation operators and infrastructure to make this program a success. The government will increase supervision of safety, fleet readiness, and coordination at all transportation nodes.

"With the coverage of the tariff discount stimulus which now applies to all modes of transportation, the government affirms its commitment to maintain the affordability of transportation services during the peak of the Nataru holiday," he said.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto emphasized the importance of this policy for economic recovery.

"People's mobility is a very important component and plays a major role in encouraging economic growth. Therefore, it needs to be optimized during the Nataru Holiday period through the provision of more affordable transportation services," said Airlangga.
