KAI Offers 30 Percent Discount on Train Tickets for 1.5 Million Customers During Christmas and New Year Period

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) or KAI is offering a 30 percent discount on commercial economy class train tickets during the 2025 Christmas and 2026 New Year (Nataru) holidays.

This discount follows the government's decision to establish a Transportation Ticket Discount Program for the Nataru Holidays as a strategic measure to maintain national economic activity.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that this program covers 156 regular trains and 26 additional trains with a total capacity of 1,509,080 passengers.

Bobby stated that this ticket discount is valid for departures between December 22, 2025, and January 10, 2026. He added that reservations are also available through all official KAI channels, such as Access by KAI.

"This ticket discount helps people plan their year-end trips more easily. Increased mobility will stimulate the tourism sector, strengthen regional economic activity, and support community activities in various destination cities," Bobby said in an official statement on Thursday, November 20.

To ensure optimal program implementation, KAI has prepared all operational aspects by strengthening infrastructure, facilities, and security. Track and bridge inspections were conducted on 562 road sections, along with a 2025 improvement program that includes the replacement of switches, rails, sleepers, ballast, and thermite work.

In addition, Bobby said, disruption mitigation is focused on 177 special monitoring areas, consisting of 110 in Java and 67 in Sumatra, to anticipate flooding, landslides, subsidence, and lightning strikes.

"In terms of security, KAI is strengthening monitoring at 248 vulnerable points by adding 735 personnel and 24-hour security with the Special Police (Polsuska), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Transportation Agency (Dishub), and local governments," he said.

Regarding facilities, comprehensive inspections were conducted on 500 locomotives, 1,990 trains, and 56 KRD (Commuter-Driven Vehicles), supported by strategic spare parts posts and the deployment of standby facilities throughout the Operational Areas and Regional Divisions.

Bobby explained that all these preparations are aimed at ensuring that the public can take advantage of the discount program comfortably and safely. KAI ensures excellent service through coordinated infrastructure, facilities, and security measures.

This discount program is also expected to provide greater flexibility for families celebrating holidays, traveling, or visiting family.

"KAI urges customers to make early reservations through Access by KAI to ensure the discount quota fits their travel plans, ensuring smooth and comfortable Christmas and New Year services," said Bobby.

Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that access to affordable transportation has a direct impact on economic activity.

This policy also provides greater opportunity for people to plan end-of-year trips at more affordable costs.

"The President directed that fare incentives be prepared to open up broader travel opportunities. Public mobility plays a crucial role in strengthening the economy during the Christmas and New Year period," said Airlangga.
