Abundant Stock, Bulog Opens Rice Export Opportunities
JAKARTA - Perum Bulog opens opportunities to export rice. This step was taken as an effort to overcome overstock or overstock rice in the warehouses of the company.
President Director Ahmad Rizal Ramdhani said the rice stock in Bulog's warehouse had reached 3.8 million tons as of November 20, 2025. He predicts that by the end of this year, the remaining rice stock will be at 3.2 million tons.
"Now the stock in our shrimp is now 3.8. Our reduction will run out around 3.2 at the end of December. Meanwhile, these 3.2 need to have new absorptions around February, March, April, this May is the peak of the harvest," he told reporters, in Jakarta, Thursday, November 20.
However, continued Rizal, Bulog has limitations for storage. This is because Bulog's warehouse reaches 1,500 units throughout Indonesia.
Rizal said, this amount is not enough to accommodate the number of existing harvests. Moreover, this year's rice production is predicted to increase by 4.1 million tons when compared to the previous year. Therefore, Bulog will build 100 new warehouse units.
"In accordance with the President's mandate, we will build a warehouse as soon as possible. We hope that in March it will be finished and can enter. The harvest at the main harvest can enter the new warehouse," he said.
Rizal said that of the 100 warehouse units, as many as 50 units would be built on Bulog's land.
"Our initial target is around 50 warehouses first, the top priority. Because the 50 warehouses are on land that has been released by Bulog," he explained.
In addition to building warehouses, Rizal said Bulog also opened options for exporting rice as an effort to overcome excess rice stocks in warehouses.
"How to rotate the rice, then we will try to find space and so on. If there are export opportunities, we will export the rice," said Rizal.
Rizal said that one of the export destinations will target countries that need assistance such as Palestine.
"We may be able to share with our friendly countries that are in trouble and that are like being in Palestine," he explained.
