West Java Disburses IDR 4 Billion To Pay UKT 400 ITB Students
BANDUNG - The West Java Provincial Government intervened in the cost of higher education by disbursing grants worth IDR 4 billion to pay Single Lecture Money (UKT) for 400 students of the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) through the Jenius Scholarship scheme.
This tactical step was taken to ensure that hundreds of outstanding students from West Java were not hampered by their studies due to economic constraints in the current semester, namely the Academic Year 2025-2026.
"These scholarships are not just financial assistance, but also long-term investment. We demand the commitment of the recipients to return and build West Java after graduation," said Head of the People's Welfare Bureau of West Java Province Andrie Kustria Wardana in Bandung, Thursday, November 20, as reported by ANTARA.
In the grant scheme from the West Java Provincial Government which was signed at the ITB Rectorate Building, Bandung, Wednesday (19/11), it is certain that each beneficiary student will receive an allocation of IDR 10 million.
"This fund is specially locked to pay UKT obligations in one semester, so that students can fully focus on the academic aspect without being overshadowed by arrears of costs," he said.
Deputy Chancellor for Finance, Planning, and ITB Development Agus Jatnika Effendi explained that the recipient selection process was carried out by multiple verification.
The absolute requirement for recipients is to have a West Java Identity Card (KTP), have an outstanding academic track record, and be validated to experience financial problems.
"This is a strategic synergy. With the closed component of UKT costs, students can focus more on self-development and study, which ultimately accelerates the birth of quality human resources for the province," said Agus.
In addition to intervening in tuition costs, collaboration between ITB and the West Java Provincial Government has also been expanded to the community service sector.
ITB students were directly involved in the development of village infrastructure and local empowerment in various regions of West Java through the Real Work Lecture (KKN) program.
"The Jenius Scholarship Program is expected to be a sustainable model in the management of regional education assistance, in which local governments not only provide funds, but also bind their recipients to the regional development ecosystem in the future," he said.
