2 Soldiers Supported By US Died After Attacking Syrian Kurdish, SDF Berdalih Wari IS
JAKARTA - The Syrian Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) on Thursday, November 20 revealed two soldiers of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were killed and others injured in clashes with Kurdish forces overnight in the northeastern of the country.
State news agency SANA was quoted as saying by AFP as reporting clashes occurred after the United States (US)-backed SDF forces attacked Kurdish army positions in Raqqa Province, Syria.
Unlike the Syrian Ministry of Defense, SDF said in a statement that its troops clashed with members of the Daesh (IS) terrorist organization trying to "launch drones into positions where our troops were stationed."
"This area has been the target of a series of attacks this week by factions affiliated with the Damascus Government, along with the activities of IS members who have actually used these positions to carry out their terrorist attacks," the SDF statement said.
The SDF alleges "direct coordination between several new Syrian government factions and IS terrorists in targeting our military positions."
SDF is a de facto soldier from the semi-autonomous Kurdish government that controls most of Syria's oil-rich northern and northeastern regions.
The US-backed SDF played a key role in the war against IS in Syria, which ultimately led to the defeat of IS in the country in 2019.
In March 2025, the SDF signed an agreement with the new Syrian government authorities to integrate Kurdish military and civilian institutions into the central government.
However, disagreements between the two sides have hampered the implementation of the agreement. The Kurdish have called for decentralization, which was rejected by the Syrian government.
