Fisherman Struck By Lightning Lost In Tasikmalaya Sea Found Dead

JAKARTA - The joint Search And Rescue (SAR) team found a fishing fisherman who was reportedly struck by lightning from his boat and disappeared in the middle of the sea of Cemara Beach, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Java, Thursday, November 20.

Head of the Bandung SAR Office, Ade Dian Permana, said the fisherman named Arif (45) reportedly fell from his boat, Tuesday, November 18 at around 15.30 WIB, then was found in the middle of the ocean at around 09.00 WIB.

"The victim, on behalf of Arif, who was previously reported to have fallen from a fishing boat on Cemara Beach due to being struck by lightning, died," he said, confiscated by Antara.

He said the joint team then evacuated the bodies to the Cipatujah Health Center before finally being handed over to the families of the victims.

After the discovery of the victim, he said, the search operation carried out by the joint SAR Team was closed and the entire team returned to their respective units.

He conveyed that the incident began when the victim and his son Riki (22) were fishing by boat, then unexpectedly the victim was struck by lightning and fell from his boat.

His son tried to help the victim, but the victim continued to be dragged by the current of the water which was fast enough that it could not be seen on the surface of the water, which the joint SAR team then conducted a search.

The joint team conducted a search by dividing into two teams, namely the first team along the land to the east as far as 3 km from Cemara Beach, then the second team combed into the middle of the ocean to the east using a fishing boat.

The search effort by the joint team finally paid off by finding the victim and then evacuating to the mainland.
