Spezia Vs Roma 2-2: Capital Wolves Win League Conference Ticket

JAKARTA - AS Roma still won a Conference League ticket despite only playing a 2-2 draw against Spezia in the 2020/21 Italia League final weekend match at Alberto Picco Stadium, Sunday local time (Monday, western Indonesia time).

The draw was enough to leave Roma with the same total points as Sassuolo, who won 2–0 against Lazio in another match.

However, as head-to-head both teams were even, the sorting was done based on the overall goal difference, in which Roma excelled with a surplus of 10 or two more goals than Sassuolo.

Thus, Roma remained in seventh place and earned a ticket to the conference qualifying playoffs, UEFA's third-tier competition that begins rolling next season.

Sassuolo, meanwhile, remains eighth as they were last season, although this season could have 11 more points, the Italian League's official website reports.

Roma's draw was hard-earned by the capital team as they trailed 0-2 at home to Alberto Picco.

Daniele Verde headed home a goal six minutes after half-time before Spezia's header was doubled by Tommaso Pobega with a close-range shot in the 38th minute.

Roma's two-goal lead came in the second half and it was seven minutes after a goal from Stephan El Shaarawy that snatched the ball away from Borja Mayoral.

Roma was able to get the equalizer five minutes into the second half through Henrikh Mkhitaryan's close-range header.

Roma tried to turn around the win but had to settle for a 2-2 draw that lasted until the break. The result was a fitting parting gift from Paulo Fonseca, whose role will be replaced by Jose Mourinho from next season.
