DPR Asks Minister Ara To Handle Settlements Exposed To Cs-137 Radiation In Cikande
JAKARTA - The leadership of Commission V DPR RI asked the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) to intervene to deal with residential areas exposed to Cesium-137 (Cs-137) radioactive substances in the Cikande Industrial Estate, Serang Regency, Banten.
Deputy Chairman of Commission V DPR RI, Syaiful Huda, said that efforts to handle people in the Cikande residential area were needed because the Cs-137 decontamination process took quite a long time.
"Cikande residents are worried and complain about the fate of their settlements that are close to the location where there is radioactive exposure from factories around settlements," said Huda at a Working Meeting (Raker) with the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP) at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 19.
Responding to this, PKP Minister Maruarar Sirait (Ara) admitted that he had not carried out the monitoring process.
He emphasized that he would immediately send a team to analyze the condition of the settlements in the Cikande area.
Later, said Ara, the team that will be sent to the Ministry of PKP will be assigned to conduct a study on how much impact Cs-137 contamination will have on residential areas.
"Later in the next meeting we will report it completely, we will complete the team comprehensively there. I will immediately assign the Director General of Settlement Areas to report complete final data, photos, videos, like what, as well as later from social studies, health, security and all studies," he replied.
Previously, the Cesium-137 Handling Task Force (Satgas) had completed the decontamination process at 22 factories that were polluted with radioactive substances and transferred 558.8 tons of contaminated material in the Cikande Modern Industrial Estate, Serang Regency, Banten.
"To protect public health and safety, decontamination activities outside the factory, especially in the red zone, including settlements, stalls and vacant land, are intensively being carried out by the Task Force," said Deputy for Environmental Pollution and Damage Control of the Ministry of Environment (KLH) who is also the Head of Mitigation and Handling of the Cs-137 Task Force, Ratio Ridho Sani, Antara, Thursday, October 30.
The ratio explains that mitigation and decontamination activities continue to be carried out intensively.
A total of 22 factories detected exposure to Cs-137 radiation have been successfully decontaminated by the Task Force.
