The Ministry Of Public Works Collaborates With BNPB To Build A Drainage System Due To Land Land Land Landslide In Cilacap

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) plans to create a drainage system to drain water from basins to nearby rivers as part of long-term mitigation due to landslides in Cilacap, Central Java.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Public Works, Dody Hanggodo, when directly inspecting the location of the landslide disaster in Cibeunying Village, Majenang District, Cilacap Regency, Tuesday, November 18.

"The Ministry of Public Works together with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) will immediately review the condition above the slopes, including the proposal to create a drainage system to drain water from the basin to the nearest river as part of long-term mitigation," said Dody in his official statement, quoted Wednesday, November 19.

As a form of emergency response support, the Ministry of Public Works and related agencies have also deployed a total of 24 excavator units, consisting of 15 units belonging to the Ministry of Public Works through BBWS and BBPJN and the rest come from local government support and other agencies.

According to Dody, after the search for victims was completed, what was no less important was mitigation efforts so that landslides would not occur again.

"We focus today on search and rescue for seven victims who have not been found. After that, it will only move on post-disaster management so that incidents like this do not happen again," he said.

Dody emphasized that disaster management is not only a matter of quick response, but also early detection and prevention.

He said that his party would follow up on studies on potential landslides not only in Cilacap, but also in other areas that have similar vulnerabilities, such as Banjarnegara and Banyumas.

"We are talking not only today, but in the future how to prevent similar incidents from happening again here or elsewhere. Our focus is on ensuring public safety through stronger prevention," he said.

Regarding the plan to relocate the affected residents, Dody ensured that his party was ready to support it.

The local government is known to have prepared an area of 3.9 hectares and is currently still waiting for the results of the examination from the Geological Agency and the ITB team to ensure that the location is safe from potential ground movement.
