Jakarta Students Will Be Limited Access To Violent Content, DPRD: Digital Literacy Education Is Also Needed
JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's plan to limit students' access to violent content on social media has been responded to by the DKI Jakarta DPRD. This is the aftermath of the bomb explosion case at SMA Negeri 72 Jakarta which occurred on 7 November.
Chairman of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, M. Thamrin, stated that the provincial government's steps should not stop only on filtering content. According to him, restrictions on access need to be supported by educational strategies targeting the entire education ecosystem.
"I encourage this effort not only to stop at the content filter, but also to be accompanied by digital literacy education for students, teachers, and parents. Filters can help, but behavioral changes only occur through education," Thamrin told reporters, Wednesday, November 19.
Thamrin emphasized that schools should be a point of strengthening digital literacy through consistent, not reactive activities. According to him, many cases of student violence occur due to the lack of ability to read risks in the digital space, ranging from imitating dangerous scenes to being influenced by the viral trend of violence.
"There must be a program of coaching, counseling, and psychological assistance in schools to prevent destructive actions that may be inspired by digital content," he said.
Thamrin also reminded that the restriction policy does not turn into a large block that actually interferes with online learning access.
"Confirming the importance of regulation to clearly target harmful content, not limiting access to the platform as a whole. We must ensure that there is no overblocking that actually hinders access to legal digital information and learning," said Thamrin.
"We at the DPRD will oversee that this regulation has a strong legal basis, a clear monitoring mechanism, and does not cause gaps in abuse of authority," he continued.
Previously, DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung revealed that the DKI Provincial Government was formulating additional policies to prevent similar incidents from recurring. One of the focuses is limiting students' access to digital content that can encourage dangerous actions.
"Now it is being formulated by the Education Office so that not all children easily see events or events like those on YouTube which then inspire our children to do what happened in SMA 72," said Pramono, Tuesday, November 18.

Currently, teaching and learning activities at SMAN 72 Jakarta have returned to normal after the explosion incident that occurred some time ago. The majority of students have returned to school to take part in face-to-face learning.
"Yesterday we also communicated with the Education Office. Now thank God at SMAN 72, the teaching and learning process has indeed been running normally," said Pramono.
Although school activities are gradually recovering, Pramono admits that the physical presence of students has not fully returned to its maximum. Some students are still carrying out distance learning due to trauma or during a recovery period.
"Indeed, not all of them were present physically. There are still some who may then be because yesterday there was trauma, injury, and so on who did it online. However, the whole thing has gone well," he said.
