The Origin Of Bandung City's Proposal Based On People's Stories: The Overflow Area Of The Citarum River That Is Consistent
YOGYAKARTA Bandung is a metropolitan city as well as the capital city of West Java province. This city has been famous since the Dutch colonial era. When the Governor of the Dutch East Indies William H Daendels arrived in 1808, Bandung was developed as a stopover city. Until now, Bandung is still a tourist destination for the surrounding cities and also throughout Indonesia. So, what is the origin of the City of Bandung? Let's look at the full information in the following article.
According to folklore, the origin of Bandung City is related to Mount Tangkuban Boats and the Citarum River.
In the past, there was a magic man named Empu Wisesa who had a daughter named Sekar. In addition, Empu Wisesa also has students named Jaka and Wira.
Empu Wisesa found his two students while visiting the village which was hit by the eruption of Mount Tangkuban Boat. At that time, he found two babies whose parents died. The babies were then cared for and raised by him to grow into Jaka and Wira.
Empu Wisesa not only takes care of Jaka and Wira, but also teaches martial arts and the values of life. Wira grows up to be a diligent student and is active in practicing even without supervision, unlike Jaka, who tends to be lazy and reluctant to train if not noticed.
At one time, Jaka asked to speak privately with his teacher. Apparently, he wanted to propose to Empu Wisesa's child. Empu Wisesa agreed and submitted the proposal to Sekar, his son.
However, Sekar only loves Wira. Sekar also told his father why he didn't ask him before approving Jaka's proposal.
Empu Wisesa then walked out of the house while thinking about a way out. Suddenly from a distance, he saw that the lava of Mount Tangkuban Boat was still burning. From there, came an idea to solve the problem he was facing.
To determine who deserves to propose to his daughter, Empu Wisesa gave conditions to his two students: they must be able to stop the flow of lahars from Mount Tangkuban Boat.
When he got a challenge from his teacher, Jaka thought that this did not make sense. However, Wira thought otherwise. According to him, the lava emitted Mount Tangkuban the boat could be extinguished with water.
Wira then rushed to find large amounts of water and found the Citarum River. He observed that the lava flow of Mount Tangkuban Boat was in a rather low basin.
Armed with martial arts from his teacher, Wira fell a hill near the Citarum River. The unstoppable water overflowed and flowed into the basin of the lava of Mount Tangkuban Boat.
The effort paid off, where the lava basin turned into a large lake known as Lake Bendung. This name comes from the Citarum River which is dammed.
For his success, Wira finally married Sekar. Over time, the lake, which was formed due to the overflow, dried up and turned into fertile soil. Because of its large area, many villagers have moved to Lake Bendung which has dried up.
They then build rice fields and fields to get abundant harvest. In addition, the village community has also made Wira a leader.
In the future, the former lake area is known as 'Bandung'.
