Google DeepMind Will Open New AI Research Laboratory In Singapore

JAKARTA Google DeepMind said it would open a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) research laboratory in Singapore. This expansion was carried out to strengthen their position in Asia-Pacific.

This step is also based on the growth of the Asia-Pacific population and Google's long-term commitment to the region. In line with this commitment, APAC's Google DeepMind team has more than doubled in the past year.

Once this AI research laboratory is built, Google DeepMind will place research scientists, software engineers, and AI impact experts at the facility. This laboratory will focus on pioneering basic research for Asia Pacific.

This research will focus on two things, namely linguistic and cultural inclusiveness. The hope is that through this fundamental research, Google DeepMind can understand how technology can be developed as well as possible to serve the various needs of the region.

In the construction of this laboratory, Google DeepMind is collaborating with the Singapore government, business people, civil society, and academic institutions. In public services, Google is partnering with GovTech and Singapore's Cybersecurity Agency (CSA) to launch a sandbox AI agent.

Through this collaboration, Google DeepMind wants to test autonomous solutions that can securely improve the efficiency and provision of public sector services. Google is also collaborating with AI Singapore to develop Project Aquarium, an open data platform for Southeast Asian Language.

"We will continue to collaborate with the dynamic partner ecosystem in the region," said Google DeepMind, quoted on Wednesday, November 19. "Together, we are responsibly shaping how AI can serve needs, and reflect culture, more than half of the world's population."
