Australian Open 2025: Women Win Easily In The First Round

JAKARTA - Putri Kusuma Wardani managed to secure an easy victory in two straight games in the first round of the Australian Open 2025.

The second seed beat China's Sung Shuo Yun Taipei with a score of 21-12 and 21-8 at the Quaycentre, Sydney, Wednesday, November 19, 2025, to keep the women's singles hopes alive.

"The key to my victory today is to enjoy and try to get all the skills out of both the blow and strategy," said Putri after the match.

The Tangerang-born badminton player is the only Indonesian women's singles in this Super 500 BWF level tournament.

He was supposed to be accompanied by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who was later withdrawn because his physical condition did not allow him to appear here after successfully reaching the final at the Japan Kumamoto Masters 2025 last week.

"Obviously I want the best results at the Australian Open, I want to take the highest podium after the results were quite good at the Hylo Open yesterday," said Putri.

Putri still has a solid agenda after leaving Australia. She will play in the 2025 SEA Games and BWF World Tour Finals, all of which take place next month.

"So, I have to maintain my mind, maintain my mental and body condition so that I am always healthy and avoid injury. Pressure must exist, but I always make this a motivation," said Putri.

Tickets for the second half were also successfully secured by women's doubles Lanny Tria Mayasari/Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi and Apriyani Rahayu Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, mixed doubles Adnan Maulana/Indah Cahya Sari Jamil, and Alwi Farhan.

The last name who was the eighth seed in the tournament got a ticket without breaking a sweat. He won the walkover (WO) over host representative Jie Ying Chan who stepped down due to injury.
