The Ganasnya Derivative KM 17, Kembali Menyakit Korban Jiwa
BULUNGAN Two single accidents occurred in a row on Jalan Ahmad Yani KM 17, Bulungan' Berau axis, to be precise on the KM 17 bridge, on Sunday and Monday, November 16, 2025.
The route, which is known to be prone to decline contours and sharp bends, took another toll. One driver reportedly died at the scene.
Bulungan Police Chief Kombes Rofiko Yunanto through the Head of Traffic at the Bulungan Police, AKP Yonathan Kurniawan, explained that the first accident occurred on Sunday (16/11) at around 18.00 WITA. A white Daihatsu Terios with police number KU 1571 AF driven by Is (54) slipped while crossing a steep descent in a slippery road condition.
"The vehicle lost control, hit the road divider, then plunged into a ravine on the side of the bridge," said Yonathan, Tuesday (18/11/2025).
As a result of the accident, the driver Is died on the spot. Two other passengers, H (46) and DA (45), were injured.
"H suffered a fracture and a nasal injury, while DA had bruises on the head," he said.
Police officers immediately evacuated and secured the vehicle. The two passengers who survived were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

A day later, on Monday (17/11) at around 10.00 WITA, another second accident occurred at the KM 17 bridge. A Hino Dutro KT 8037 MV box truck driven by AK (32) is suspected of having failed brakes while crossing the derivative with a bend to the right. The truck was unable to control and hit the concrete fence of the bridge until the front was badly damaged.
Even though the front of the truck was wrecked, the AK driver was not injured. We have put up warning banners to be careful around the location," explained Yonathan.
He added that the two accidents in less than 24 hours reiterated the high vulnerability on the KM 17 route, especially during rainy conditions.
