Roblox Starts Implementing Age Verification Systems To Access Chat Features
JAKARTA - Roblox has started rolling out an age verification system using a Facial Age Estimation or ID verification, for all users who wish to access the chat feature in the game.
After the age check is complete, users will only be allowed to chat with other people in the same age group, unless they become trusted connections with people they know.
"This initiative is designed to provide a more age-appropriate experience for all users, which we believe will increase interactions for users of all ages on Roblox," Roblox wrote in its announcement.
This new system is a follow-up to the company's plan in September 2025, to provide a safer and more comfortable gaming experience for children, through age verification.
During the first week of December, Roblox will begin imposing age screening requirements in certain markets, including Australia, New Zealand, and the Netherlands.
Furthermore, these requirements will be extended to more countries around the world, where chat services are available in early January 2026.
Roblox emphasized that age verification measures using the facial age estimate by taking photos and videos using this device's camera were carried out quickly and safely.
"images and videos for age checks will be processed by our vendors, Persona, and removed as soon as processed," the company said.

In addition, the company also says that this age check is fully optional. However, chat-like features will not be accessible unless you do an age check first.
Early next year, Roblox will also require age checks to access social media links on user profiles, communities, and experience details pages.
This will strengthen our current policy, which has limited access to users who are 13 years of age and older.
