One Survivor Of The Umrah Congregation Bus Accident In Saudi Arabia Successfully Jumped From The Window
JAKARTA - The only survivors of the Umrah congregation bus accident in Medina, Saudi Arabia on Monday morning are known to have jumped out of the window.
A fatal accident occurred when the Umrah congregation bus carrying 46 people collided with a diesel tanker truck and caught fire. A total of 45 people died in the accident.
One of the 46 people on the bus survived and is undergoing treatment at the hospital, said VC Sajjanar, Hyderabad's police commissioner, to The National, as quoted November 18.
Meanwhile, the travel operator said the 24-year-old was recovering.
"Abdul Shoeb Mohammed managed to break the window and jump out of the bus. He was the only passenger to survive," said Shaik Ismail, a travel consultant at Al Makkah's tour agency in Hyderabad, to The National.
"He suffered serious head injuries, was hospitalized in the ICU, and his condition improved," he added.
Sajjanar added that eight of the total tour groups survived because they did not get on the bus that had an accident. Four people remain in Makkah, four others decided to go to Medina by car.
"The dead victims came from Hyderabad and one from Karnataka. They were on their way to Umrah and were part of a group of 54 people who left Hyderabad on November 9," he explained.
"We are doing our best to contact the family and verify the data of all passengers," he added.
Previously, Indian media reported that the bus carrying Umrah pilgrims caught fire after an accident. The death toll included 20 women and 11 children, mostly from Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he was "deeply saddened" by the accident.
"My prayers are with the family who have lost their loved ones. I pray that all the injured victims will recover soon," he wrote on X.

He said the Indian Embassy in Riyadh and the Consulate in Jeddah "provided all possible assistance" to citizens.
"Our officials are also coordinating closely with the Saudi authorities," he added.
India's Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, also expressed his condolences in the upload on X.
"Very surprised by the accident involving Indian citizens in Medina, Saudi Arabia," he said in the post.
"Our Embassy in Riyadh and our Consulate in Jeddah provide full support to Indian citizens and families affected by this accident," he added.
