Nusantara's Oldest Heritage, Jupitera's Inscription Enters The Verification Stage Of The Nation's Collective Memory

JAKARTA - As one of the oldest heritages of the archipelago civilization, the Yupa Inscription Archives is an important symbol in the history of the Kutai Kingdom which stands in the East Kalimantan region. This inscription is not only an archaeological relic, but also an early record of the growing tradition of writing and royal culture in Indonesia.

Currently, the archive that stores the track record of the Yupa Inscription is entering the second phase of the verification process in the National Collective Memory (MKB) program initiated by the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI). This was conveyed by the Head of the Archives and Library of Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), Rinda Desianti.

"Currently, the Yupa Inscription Archives is entering the second phase of the MKB proposal verification process. As for the next process, we are still waiting for further official information from the Secretariat of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia (ANRI)," said Rinda in Tenggarong, as quoted by ANTARA.

To strengthen support for the archive to officially become part of the MKB, the 2025 Memory of Jupiter Festival is taking place at the Lesong Batu Museum, Muara Kaman District. This event was officially opened by the Regent of Kutai Kartanegara, Rendi Solihin.

"Through this activity, it is hoped that public support will be stronger so that the Yupa Archive, which is proof of the oldest civilization in the archipelago, obtains national recognition and is equivalent to its historical value," explained Rinda.

The festival begins with a cultural journey using the Pesut Mahakam Ship from Tenggarong to Muara Kaman, which aims to enrich the participant's educational experience. On that trip, a group consisting of community representatives was invited to reminisce about the Mahakam river path, which was once the center of cultural activity and history of the Kutai Kingdom.

This event also featured various activities, such as zumba exercises, Nyerawen events, and Story LA, the results of the collaboration between the Archives and Library Service with the Kukar Education and Culture Office.

"The Memory of Jupiter's Festival is not only packaged as an art and cultural event, but also has an educational mission to increase public understanding of the importance of preserving historical archives," said Rinda.

He emphasized that the Jupitera inscription is part of the nation's identity, not just a legacy of the past. With recognition in the MKB, it is hoped that the current and future generations can recognize and appreciate the roots of Indonesian civilization which was born on the banks of the Mahakam River.
