BPBD Waits For PVMBG Examination Regarding Gas Smell In Cianjur Cugenang Makes Residents Refuge
The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is waiting for the results of the inspection of the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) to determine the cause of the smell of gas and hot air from the floor of the residents of Cijedil Village, Cugenang District, Cianjur Regency, West Java.
Secretary of BPBD Cianjur Regency, Asep Sudrajat, said that his party had visited a resident's house in Cijedil Village, which reportedly smelled of gas and had a hot floor and asked the owner to temporarily evacuate.
"The owner and his family have fled to his brother's house, to avoid unwanted things while waiting for confirmation from the PVMBG which we have sent a letter for examination," he said in Cianjur, Tuesday, which was confiscated by Antara.
The letter sent to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through PVMBG should immediately carry out further examinations related to the phenomenon that appears in residents' homes, which is confirmed that only one house emits a gas odor and the floor emits hot air.
"We hope that an examination will be carried out soon, so that various steps will be taken after the results come out. At this time we cannot confirm the cause," said Asep Sudrajat.

Meanwhile, the owner of the house Sadad (46) said that before he smelled gas and the floor of the house was emitting hot air, he heard several small bangs, even the heat was strong on the body, especially on the face, while on the terrace of the house.
He had suspected that this was due to a gas cylinder, but was not found, including checking the electricity network with PLN officers, but there was no error in the electrical connection inside or on the ceiling of the house, but the smell of gas continued to sting and the heat was getting higher.
"I tried to measure the level of heat on the terrace of the house which reached 50 degrees, so I chose to evacuate family members to my relative's house, especially since the smell of gas was getting pungent. This has happened since the last three days," he said.
He hopes that research can be carried out to ensure a phenomenon that makes local residents nervous, especially residents whose houses are close together but do not feel the smell of gas or the hot floor of the house.
"I hope that the cause will be confirmed soon so that we no longer evacuate, because every time we return home the heat is getting higher and the smell of gas is getting stronger, plus local residents are also restless," he said.
