AI Phones Are Getting Cheaper, Counterpoint Predicts Prices Will Start At IDR 1.6 Million In 2028
JAKARTA - The trend of adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technology on smartphones continues to increase in Indonesia, along with the public's interest in AI-capable devices and the increasingly affordable 5G network.
Bahkan, Counterpoint Research juga memprediksi bila fitur AI generatif bakal hadir pada smartphone dengan harga di bawah 100 dolar AS (Rp1,67 juta) setidaknya di tahun 2028 mendatang.
Senior Analyst Counterpoint Research, Ridwan Kusuma explained that one of the main drivers is the development of the AI cloud, which allows AI processing not to be fully borne by smartphone computing capabilities.
More interestingly, the results of the global Counterpoint survey show that developing countries are the most enthusiastic markets in adopting AI Gen on smartphones.
"Indonesia and Thailand are among the market that is the most open and fast to adopt the Gen AI feature," said Ridwan at a discussion session at the Indonesia Gadget Award 2025 some time ago.

Counterpoint noted that the Indonesian smartphone market grew around 12% in the third quarter of 2024, driven by the adoption of Gen AI, the widespread choice of affordable 5G devices, and the increasing consumer confidence index.
In Q3 2025, Samsung again leads the market with a 20% share, followed by Xiaomi (17%), OPPO (16%), Vivo (14%), and Infinix (12%).
Infinix is said to be the most aggressive player thanks to growth reaching 45% (YoY). Meanwhile, 5G smartphone penetration in Indonesia is stable at 35%, thanks to strong expansion in the medium segment.
