Bandung Genjot Teknologi RDF, Volume Sampah Ke TPA Sarimukti Mulai Turun

BANDUNG - The Bandung City Environment Agency (DLH) continues to optimize the Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) technology to reduce the volume of waste entering the Sarimukti Final Disposal Site (TPA) while increasing the value for waste.

The head of the Bandung City DLH Garbage Reduction Team, Syahriani, said that RDF is an important innovation in processing low-value inorganic waste so that it can be reused as an alternative fuel.

This RDF method is one way for us to turn low-value waste into useful energy. The industry can use RDF as a coal substitution, so that waste is no longer just thrown away, but is reused," said Syahriani in Bandung, Antara, Monday, November 17.

He explained that a number of Integrated Waste Processing Sites (TPST) have now been operating by implementing this technology, one of which is TPST Tegallega which is able to process around 25 tons of waste per day into RDF.

Meanwhile, TPST Gedebage is increasing its capacity for organic waste processing through the magazineization method and inorganic waste to RDF with a target of 60 tons per day.

"With these various facilities, the results are starting to feel. The volume of waste entering the TPA is gradually decreasing, and the use of waste as an alternative fuel is starting to run," he said.

However, Syahriani admits that there are still a number of obstacles, such as too wet or mixed waste supply, as well as TPST operational capacity that is not yet fully optimal.

In addition to strengthening processing facilities, DLH also encourages community participation through waste bank programs, zero waste villages, waste-free areas (KBS), to household assistance.

We want every RW to be able to manage its own waste. Starting from sorting, processing, to reducing single-use packaging waste. That way, the remaining waste is really small," he said.

In the future, the Bandung City DLH targets a significant reduction in residual volume to the TPA, increased TPST capacity and RDF production, expansion of the area with independent waste management, and strengthening the role of residents from sorting to processing at the regional level.

People are part of the solution. When people start sorting out from the family, joining the waste bank, taking part in posting, or supporting the TPST, it has really helped reduce the city's burden and protect the environment," he said.
