The Results Of The Accident-Prone Study, U-Turn In Batam Are Closed By The Police
The Barelang Police Traffic Unit in the Riau Islands (Kepri) closed two u-turns or vehicle turnover facilities on Jalan Sudirman, Batam City, because it was prone to traffic accidents.
Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of the Riau Islands Police, Kombes Pol. Andhika Bayu Adhittama explained that the closure of the two u-turns was carried out based on the results of a traffic safety study.
"After being studied, the u-turn was closed because along the route there were several u-turns, and the u-turn (which was closed) had the potential to cause traffic accidents, so it was closed," said Andhika in Batam, Monday, as quoted by Antara.
The two u-turns are U-turn Legenda, and U-turn Radisson, Jalan Sudirman. The closure has been going on for less than a month. Both u-turns are closed using a concrete barrier.
According to Andhika, the closure of the two u-turns is still under study, and will be carried out permanently if it is effective in reducing the number of traffic accidents.
"(Permanent) is seen as needed. Meanwhile, steps are to reduce accidents," he said.
The middle-ranking police officer said that his party would intensify socialization to the public regarding the closure of the u-turn so that no one would damage the concrete barrier to make a U-turn.
"We will further disseminate it to the public, so people should not only see why it is closed, but based on its impact to reduce accidents," he said.
Andhika also explained the reason why the u-turn is only closed now, after previously people were used to turning back at the two points.
Because the construction of roads in Batam City has only begun, he said, so that in the future it is increasingly being studied for traffic safety.
"It's also called development. From the start, the more it runs in the future, the safer it is and the safer it is," said Andhika.

Both u-turns are often used by road users, especially motorbikes against the direction (contra flow) when they want to turn around or turn around, such as in the Legend's u-turn.
So that it is prone to traffic accidents because the lane has five lanes, and vehicles passing from two wheels, four wheels, to 13-axis vehicles.
In addition to closing two u-turns on Sudirman Street, the Barelang Police Traffic Unit also carried out traffic engineering in the form of canalizing the left lane on the road.
This left lane canalization is intended for motorcycle vehicles to use the next lane when driving. Two-wheeled vehicles can only be in the right lane to turn or turn around.
