Survey: Japan's People Are Divided Into War Involved Schemes If China Attacks Taiwan

JAKARTA - Kyodo news agency released the results of a survey showing Japanese society was divided in response to the Sakura Country's scheme of war if China attacked Taiwan.

The results of a survey published on Sunday, November 16, show that 48.8 percent of respondents support Japan's collective military defense, only 44.2 percent adrift of this.

Meanwhile, 60.4 percent of respondents supported Japan's Prime Minister (PM) Sanae Takaichi's plan to increase the country's defense budget.

This finding provides an early picture of Japan's public perception of the country's defense and security in response to the escalation of war around the region.

The survey comes amid Jepadang's heated diplomatic relations with China following PM Takaichi's statement regarding Taiwan

On November 7, PM Takaichi said that if China attacks Taiwan it could potentially cause a "sustainability-threatening situation" and trigger a military response from Japan.

Takaichi's statement sparked China's anger, which also warned its citizens against traveling to Japan.

China did not set aside using military force to confirm its claim to Taiwan, which is 110 kilometers from Japanese territory. The sovereignty claimed by China had been rejected by the Taiwanese Government.

In his speech after being sworn in last month regarding the direction of state policy in defense and security, PM Takaichi has promised to indoctrate defense spending.

Takaichi promised to achieve the target of defense spending of 2 percent of gross domestic product (GDP) in the fiscal year until March, faster than the target at the beginning of fiscal year 2027.
