Rupiah Weakening At The Beginning Of The Week, Pressured Hawkish The Fed's Attitude

JAKARTA - The rupiah exchange rate in trading Monday, November 17, 2025, has again shown a weakening of the United States (US) dollar.

In the spot market, the rupiah moved thinly and opened trading with a weakening, namely at the beginning of Monday, November 17, the rupiah was recorded to be opened at IDR 16,708 per US dollar, or a slight decrease of 0.006 percent compared to Friday's closing, November 14 which was at IDR 16,707 per US dollar.

Citing Bloomberg data, at the end of last week, Friday, November 14, 2025, the rupiah spot exchange was closed higher by 0.13 percent to the level of Rp. 16,707 per US dollar.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) exchange rate of Bank Indonesia (BI) closed up 0.13 percent to a price level of Rp. 16,710 per US dollar.

Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said that the rupiah opened lower against the US dollar, under pressure by hawkish statements from a number of Fed officials.

"The rupiah opened lower against the US dollar under pressure by hawkish statements from several Fed officials," he told VOI, Monday, November 17.

In addition, he added that investors also tend to be wait and see while waiting for the results of the RDGBI and the release of Indonesia's current account balance for the third quarter, which has recorded a deficit for nine consecutive quarters.

"Investors also tend to wait and see anticipating RDGBI and the release of Indonesia's Q3 current account balance (which has experienced a deficit for 9 consecutive quarters) this week," he said.

However, he said that BI is expected to intervene at current levels.

Lukman projects that the movement of the rupiah on Monday, November 17, will move in the range of Rp. 16,650 per US dollar to Rp. 16,750 per US dollar.
