The iPhone Fold is said to be the most advanced in the world. Here's what it originally looked like!

JAKARTA - Rumors about the iPhone Fold have been circulating for more than a decade, but Apple's first foldable device is expected to finally debut in 2026 or 2027. Numerous reports, leaks, and expert analysis indicate that Apple is continuing to develop a device with a foldable display, which is said to be an entirely new iPhone model.

While several smartphone manufacturers, such as Samsung, have fully embraced the foldable phone concept with the Galaxy Fold and Galaxy Z Flip lines, Apple has yet to release a similar device and has declined to comment officially on the project. However, sources familiar with the development process say that Apple and its supply chain partners have been researching this technology for years.

Throughout 2024–2025, various leaks have increasingly emerged, ranging from technical specifications to alleged release dates. Here's a complete summary of all the rumors surrounding the iPhone Fold.

iPhone Fold Release Schedule Rumors

Rumors about an iPhone with a foldable display first surfaced in 2017, when a report predicted that mass production of display panels would begin in 2020. Another report in 2018 predicted that Apple would release its first foldable device in 2020, but this did not materialize.

In 2020, a rumor suggested Foxconn was developing a foldable iPhone prototype with a planned 2022 release. Following this, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo repeatedly predicted the release date: initially 2023, then 2024, but both years passed without an iPhone Fold launch.

As 2022 entered, predictions shifted to 2025, with reports suggesting Apple was working on several prototypes. DSCC's Ross Young confirmed in February 2022 that the iPhone Fold would not arrive before 2025.

However, between 2024 and 2025, several reports suggested a more plausible 2026 or 2027 schedule. Various rumors, including those in February and March 2024, stated that Apple had originally targeted 2026 but postponed it to 2027. A June 2024 report further reinforced the 2027 prediction.

However, analyst Jeff Pu, in July 2024 and March–April 2025, maintained that a 2026 launch was most likely. Other sources in February 2025 also mentioned a production start in early 2026 for a 2027 release, but other rumors suggested a 2026 release with a production start in late 2025.

Through September 2025, Ming-Chi Kuo continued to reinforce his prediction that the iPhone Fold would enter mass production in Q4 2026. In July 2025, reports emerged that an iPhone Fold prototype had been built. In October 2025, a leak suggested Apple had begun stockpiling components, supporting the 2026 release prediction.

However, rumors in October 2025 also suggested a delay to 2027 due to issues with the hinge design.

Although there were reports in February 2024 that the iPhone Fold project had been canceled, numerous subsequent leaks confirmed that the device was still in development.

Overall, current rumors suggest the iPhone Fold will likely be released in 2026 or 2027, depending on who is quoted.

iPhone Fold Display Supplier

The display is the most important component of the iPhone Fold. Since 2017, Apple has been linked to LG Display as a supplier for the foldable display. These rumors resurfaced in 2021 and 2022, including reports that Apple was working with LG Display to develop a foldable display for the MacBook or iPad.

In 2022, Apple was also rumored to be working with LG and Samsung Display to create flexible OLED panels with a hybrid structure, combining glass with a flexible plastic substrate. In 2020, Samsung Display was reportedly asked by Apple to provide large-scale samples of foldable panels.

As of January 2025, Apple had not made a final decision. However, in February 2025, a different report stated that Apple had finally selected Samsung Display as the exclusive display supplier for the iPhone Fold. This information was later confirmed by reports in April and May 2025.

This development makes sense, as Samsung has years of experience with foldable devices. In July 2025, Samsung was even reported to have built a dedicated production line for iPhone Fold displays. Kuo later stated that Apple would use Samsung's "crease-free" display design.

Screen Size and Resolution

The iPhone Fold is predicted to have two displays: a smaller outer display and a much larger inner display when unfolded.

A February 2025 rumor suggested the inner display would be equivalent to two 6.1-inch iPhone displays.
