Princess Kusuma Makes A Surprise At Spain Masters 2021, After Defeating Ruselli Hartawan
JAKARTA - Indonesia's singles champion Putri Kusuma Wardani made a surprise appearance at the Spain Masters 2021. After winning the 'civil war' against Ruselli Hartawan in the semi-finals.
Playing 63 minutes, Putri Kusuma Wardani finally won 21-14, 16-21, 21-15 in a match that took place at palacio de Deportes Carolina Marín, Huelva City.
This result is quite surprising. Putri is currently ranked 200th in the world, while Ruselli Hartawan, who is more senior, is ranked 42nd.
"Today was quite tiring and stressful. Cece (Ruselli) played well and was hard to turn off. But Alhamdulillah I can win," said Putri, as quoted by PBSI website, Saturday, May 22.
Putri admitted to trying to play patiently and stay calm when facing Tan. He also claimed to be satisfied with his game.
"The first game of my pattern was fitting. Play fast and make no mistakes yourself. The second game I was a bit relaxed the game, so the care and pressure continued especially on the front ball."
This victory added to the Women's motivation to achieve better results at the 2021 Spain Masters. Despite the win, Putri still kept a little upset because her idol, Carolina Marin, was not dropped in this Super 300-level tournament.
"I was hoping to see him, but he backed out. A bit disappointed actually. But it's okay, hopefully we can meet in the next tournament," said Putri.
Putri Kusuma Wardana was one of 12 Indonesian representatives who qualified for the third round of the Badminton Spain Masters tournament. The women have a chance to reach the final because they will face fellow non-seeded Leonice Huet (France). Spain Masters 2021 semi-finals
