Be Alert, This Is A Sign Of Frequently Unrecognized Dementia

JAKARTA - Dementia is a general term used for a collection of symptoms involving the significant loss of memory, thinking ability, and social skills.

This condition can interfere with daily life, even reduce the quality of life, so it should be prevented. However, many people do not understand dementia, including the initial sign that is often not realized.

One of the early signs of dementia that is often not realized is the occurrence of disturbances related to communication and direction. The communication difficulties seemed to suddenly have difficulty finding or compiling words properly.

"Difficulty with language including difficulty finding words, wrong sentence construction or difficulty with self expression can appear long before memory loss," said neuroscientist Dr. Arif Dalvi, quoted from Huffpost, Saturday, November 15, 2025.

Changes occur in communication and drafting sentences tend to be overlooked frequently, but it is important to monitor whether there is frequency related to the condition. Not only that, other signs of dementia can be seen in changes in a person's sense of direction.

"Visual or spatial skills can also be influenced from an early age," he said.

"The general way presented is the difficulty of navigating routes previously known or requiring GPS clues to previously known routes," he added.

Another sign that is rarely realized is the difficulty of completing a known task, sensitivity to noise, and changes in taste and smell. These signs must be understood and known, in order to take precautions before conditions get worse.

"It is very important to note that hallucinations can also be caused by other causes, and any unusual symptoms must be discussed with health care providers," he concluded.
