Opera Users On IOS Soar Fivefold In Europe Thanks To DMA Rules
JAKARTA Opera, a web browser company from Norway, announced an increase in its iOS user base in Europe. This increase has reached five times since the Digital Markets Act (DMA) took effect.
Overall, in the last 12 months, Opera recorded a 88 percent increase in daily active iOS users in Europe. This rapid growth was largely driven by changes mandated by DMA.
One of the main changes introduced by DMA is the browser selection screen display to European users. This screen is presented when the user is setting up their new device. This allows alternative browsers like Opera to gain visibility equivalent to Safari.
This growth follows a 57 percent overall spike that has occurred in the first 12 months. Especially in key markets such as France, Opera has even seen an increase in active users up to five times since the introduction of DMA.

The Executive Vice President of Opera Mobile, Jrypten Arnesen, explained that the combination of several factors is the key to this success. These factors are fairer competition in Europe and directed marketing.
Arnesen also highlighted Opera's efforts in presenting unique features, such as free browser VPN for iOS users. The relentless focus on unique browser innovation is the main driver for users to choose Opera as an alternative.
Currently, Opera is listed on a browser selection screen in all 27 EU countries required by DMA. This registration ensures that users now have better awareness about the browser options available other than Safari.
