There Are 2 Billion Emails And 1.3 Billion Passwords That Have Been Hacked, You May Be One Of Them

JAKARTA - About two billion email addresses and 1.3 billion passwords have been compromised in a large series of cyber data breaches. The amount of stolen credentials is the largest data compilation ever handled by cybersecurity experts.

The amount of stolen data was disclosed by the Synthetian security company conducting the research. They collect stolen login information spread across the dark web and unify it in one database. This figure has been verified.

Troy Hunt, Microsoft Regional Director, who manages the popular site Have I Been Pwned, confirmed the findings. He stated that the stolen data is much wider than any leak data the site has ever processed. The exact figure even reached 1,957,476,021 email addresses.

Hunt also highlighted the dangers of the 1.3 billion unique passwords that were also stolen. A total of 625 million of these passwords have never been seen before in any database. This shows a significant scale of violations in terms of completely new data.

It's important to note that this is not the result of a single data breach. Instead, the data is a compilation of various leaks and breeches. Synthets remove duplications to get the total unique credentials available.

This stolen data is found in what is known as a list of credentials. Hackers often try a combination of successful emails and passwords on one site for hundreds of other sites. This is why using the same password on various services is so dangerous.

To check whether their login is included in this broken database, users can use the Pwned Passwords search feature. Hunt ensures that password checks will be carried out locally in the user browser.

In addition to manual checks, users are also advised to register a notification service if their email address appears in new data breaches. These steps are critical to protecting yourself from cyber threats that continue to rise.
