Reasons For The Antara To Choose Glenny As President Director Of Garuda Indonesia: This Is A Matter Of Commitment
Managing Director of BPI Operations Holding Danantara Febriany Eddy revealed the reason for choosing Glenny H Kairupan as President Director of Garuda Indonesia.
He said the decision was taken taking into account Glenny's commitment to the company.
Febriany recounted his meeting with Glenny before he was officially appointed as President Director of Garuda.
During the meeting, he said, an answer emerged which made him immediately convinced Glenny.
"I asked, sir, what is your commitment to Garuda? Mr. Glenny said, 'Ma'am, I am a person who is willing to die for the Republic of Indonesia. That's my commitment to Garuda.' At that time I was immediately stunned," Febriany said in Media Coffee Morning at Wisma Danantara, Jakarta, Friday, November 14.
According to him, the statement shows the level of dedication that Garuda needs to get out of the long pressure and reorganize its business structure.
"If you're committed, don't ask again," he said.
For the position of Deputy President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Febriany said Glenny directly chose Thomas Sugiarto Oentoro. The reason is because it is very caliber in the field of finance and investment.
In addition, said Febriany, Thomas also has a background as an Independent Commissioner at the state-owned airline. With these considerations, Febri and Glenny agreed that Thomas was a figure who had a high work ethic.
Even though he was only 9 months as a commissioner to sit at Garuda, I discussed it with Mr. Thomas, I immediately believed. Because he is humble, his productivity is high. Want to learn, keep asking questions, work hard. Look at Mr. Thomas everywhere his arms are rolled up. Always he works," he said.
Febriany emphasized that the transformation of Garuda would not work without cultural change. That's why Glenny was asked to suppress ceremonial practices that were considered unproductive.
"So, that's it. We, Mr. Glenny, also give directions to the subsidiaries from there. Already, the gimmicks are lacking. There are no benefits from the ceremony to reduce it. Because it's distraction. And it sends a very different message. We now want to work. So there must be a result and impact," he said.

“Karena kalau pemimpinnya tidak bisa mencerminkan budaya yang diperlukan untuk transformasi Garuda, maka tidak akan langgeng. Apapun kita lakukan, akan short term, tidak akan berkelanjutan,” jelasnya.

Furthermore, Febriany said, the transformation carried out at the helm of Garuda Indonesia is a form of change in the work culture of the state-owned airline company.
"Because if the leader cannot reflect the culture needed for the transformation of Garuda, it will not last. Whatever we do, it will be short term, it will not be sustainable," he explained.
