Jason Kidd Urges Mavericks Fans To Build New Atmosphere After Harrison's Dismissal

The day after the sacking of Mavericks General Manager Nico Harrison, head coach Jason Kidd urged team fans to step forward after months of anger against Harrison over the home game atmosphere.

Mavericks fans often chanted 'Fire Nico!' during matches at the American Airlines Center in protest over a shocking exchange of players in early February 2025 who sent local superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The singings often occur when a Dallas player is on the free throw line, including several times in the fourth quarter of the defeat to the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, morning WIB.

"It was a bit disrespectful. The players played hard and they tried to win. With such a chant at a free throw, it was very disrespectful."

"They convey the intention as fans, but we have to keep going. I understand the healing process of the fans, but these players are playing hard."

"Since the player's exchange, they have given everything," Kidd said before home defeat of 123-114 on Thursday, 13 November 2025, morning WIB, against the Phoenix Suns.

The fans' hatred of Harrison was so great that the Mavs players personally complained that they felt aggrieved by playing at home.

"The fans don't really support us. Hopefully, that changes," said Mavs forward, PJ Washington, as reported by ESPN.

Washington is on the free throw line with a remaining time of 7:07 in the fourth quarter, with Mavs maintaining the advantage of one ball possession when the chant-yel was first heard on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 WIB.

This happened again when Washington was violated in a three-point attempted shot with 1.2 seconds remaining and had a chance to equalize.

Washington failed to score a second free throw. He refused to use the distraction of the chants as an excuse, but Washington said he was unhappy with the negative atmosphere.

"Hopefully, everyone is starting to cheer now. They will stand still when the throws are free," Washington said.
