PLN EPI And Multi Bioenergy Nusantara Sign Biomass Production Collaboration Development Cooperation

JAKARTA - PT PLN Energi Primary Indonesia (PLN EPI) together with PT Multi Bioenergy Nusantara (MBN) are exploring strategic cooperation in the development of biomass fuels

Director of Biomass of PLN EPI Hokkop Situngkir said the presence of strategic partners who were able to secure supplies from upstream to downstream was very important to accelerate the biomass ecosystem in Indonesia.

So far, PLN EPI has focused on the off-taker and retail sides. The presence of MBN is important because it can be a strategic partner that secures supply from upstream. We hope this cooperation will run quickly, but still follow BUMN governance, including due diligence, consultation, and reporting between stakeholders," explained Hokkop, Friday, November 14.

Hokkop added that the project will start on a pilot scale while preparing a long-term development roadmap. In addition to meeting PLN's needs, this initiative is also directed to open up biomass export opportunities to the international market.

"Not all agro waste can be processed at this time. With partners, such as MBN, other waste potential can be utilized as pellets or solid fuels, both for domestic and export needs," he explained.

President Director of PT MBN, Masfet Yones, emphasized the company's readiness to support the national energy transition through the provision of biomass facilities and supplies for PLN EPI. MBN has prepared more than 10 hectares of land including warehouses, lay-down areas, and adequate logistics access.

We already have ready-to-use facilities and various supporting heavy equipment. If PLN EPI requires a re-survey, we are ready to support and provide complete technical data. This is the starting point to start a concrete partnership," Masfet said.

Masphet also ensures MBN's readiness to invest in biomass raw materials and supplies. He emphasized the Company's flexibility in starting the project with a gradual approach.

"If the target is nine units, we can start with three units first while walking with the PLN team. Our principle: fast, precise, and sustainable," he explained.

This collaboration will be followed up through due diligence, technical studies, and the preparation of commercial schemes before being finalized in the form of Operational Cooperation (KSO) or other strategic partnership models.
