MedcoEnergi Adds 39 MW Capacity To Batam's Electricity System

JAKARTA - PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk (MEDC) through its subsidiary, PT Medco Power Indonesia (Medco Power), started commercial operations (COD) of the Add-On Combined Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) with a capacity of 39 MW located in Tanjung Uncang, Batam.

President Director & CEO of Medco Power Indonesia, Eka Satria explained, this project was developed by a subsidiary of Medco Power, PT Energi Listrik Batam (ELB), based on a long-term electricity sale and purchase agreement with PT PLN Batam.

"Through this project, the open-cycle facility with a capacity of 70 MW has been converted into a combined cycle power plant with a capacity of 109 MW," he said, quoted on Friday, November 14.

By utilizing exhaust heat from gas turbines to produce additional electricity through steam turbines, he continued, generating efficiency increases and lowers carbon intensity from 0.8 to 0.4 tons of CO2 per MWh, while strengthening electricity supply for industrial growth in Batam and Bintan.

Meanwhile, MedcoEnergi CEO Roberto Lorato added that this project shows MedcoEnergi's commitment to continuing to build a more efficient and carbon-lower electricity portfolio.

"This project contributes to the reliability of national energy and sustainable development in Indonesia," he continued.

The project was completed with more than 2.7 million hours of safe work without incidents of loss of working time, affirming high operating standards and Medco Power's commitment to safety and performance.
