21 Residents Still Missing In Majenang Landslide, Search Is Speeded

The joint team of officers searching for landslide victims in Majenang, Cilacap Regency, Central Java, took place almost without time since the incident occurred on Thursday, November 13 night.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari, said that the joint team immediately moved quickly to search the scene, search and evacuate victims moments after receiving information about last night's landslide at around 20.00 WIB.

BNPB confirmed temporary data that a total of 49 residents were affected by the disaster. Among them, two people were evacuated with a death condition, three people were injured, 23 people were safe and while 21 people were declared missing in search.

According to him, at least until 03.00 WIB this morning there were 21 people still being searched. Then this morning a heavy aid unit was deployed to speed up the search and rescue process (SAR).

"The search is still being carried out optimally because it is still in the golden time period," he said in his statement, Friday, November 14.

Heavy and long-duration rainfall made the soil structure of the hilly area in Majenang unstable, and hoarded residential areas around it.

According to reports from officers in the field, he said, the landslide of hundreds of meters immediately damaged 12 houses of residents of Cibaduyut, Cibeunying and Tarukahan hamlets.

BNPB appealed to all SAR teams and the community around the location to remain alert to the potential for further landslides in line with light rain - moderate intensity still has the potential to occur evenly in Majenang District until Sunday (16/11).
