Asking Permission To Sultan, Golkar Plans To Hold National Seminar On Regional Bonds In Yogyakarta
JAKARTA – The Chairman of the Golkar Party faction in the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Melchias Markus Mekeng, paid a courtesy visit to the Yogyakarta Palace to meet with the Governor of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X. The visit was to seek permission and support before the Golkar faction held a National Seminar on Regional Bonds.
The national workshop is planned to be held in Yogyakarta on November 24, 2025.
Mekeng stated that permission and support from the Sultan were crucial because Yogyakarta was chosen not only for its location but also for its historical significance.
"We feel the need to ask permission from Ngarsa Dalem Sri Sultan before this national event is held," Mekeng said in a written statement, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, November 14, 2025.
Regional Bonds as a Development Financing Instrument
During the meeting, Mekeng explained that this workshop would serve as a strategic forum to discuss the potential of regional bonds as an important instrument for financing regional development and public investment.
He emphasized that Yogyakarta was chosen as the event location for a reason. The city is considered to have a dual role.
"We chose Yogyakarta not only for its rich historical and cultural value, but also for its important role as a center of education and national thought," Mekeng explained.
Sultan Enthusiastic, Ready to Be Keynote Speaker
On the other hand, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X welcomed the idea of holding a national seminar. The Sultan considered this initiative highly relevant to the spirit of regional fiscal independence.
According to the Sultan, the use of regional bonds is a progressive step towards strengthening regional fiscal autonomy and improving public financial governance.
"The idea of regional bonds is a step forward to strengthen regional autonomy and independent development financing. I welcome it enthusiastically and, God willing, will be present as a keynote speaker at the upcoming discussion," said the Sultan.
Mekeng and the Sultan hope this activity will make a real contribution to enriching the discourse on regional fiscal policy and strengthening synergy between the central and regional governments in developing sound and sustainable financial instruments.
