President Prabowo Appoints PT Pindad To Work On National Cars

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto gave a special mandate to PT Pindad to develop a national car project which is now officially included in the National Strategic Project List (PSN). This was conveyed by the Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita.

Agus explained that he received information about the assignment directly from the Minister of State Secretary (Mensesneg), Prasetyo Hadi. Agus also revealed that he had held an intensive meeting with the President Director of PT Pindad and his staff.

"I have received directions from the President through the Minister of State Secretary, where the President determined that the national car development through PSN was carried out or carried out by PT Pindad," Agus told reporters in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 12.

In the meeting with PT Pindad, it resulted in an initial understanding between the Ministry of Industry and Pindad in preparing strategic steps for the construction of national cars. However, the Minister of Industry has not disclosed details about the location of the factory or the production capacity to be carried out.

"So that the parties from the Ministry of Industry and also from PT Pindad have received, they already have the same understanding of how we can achieve what is outlined, what the President wants to have a national car," he said.

Meanwhile, previously the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that Hyundai had expressed interest and was ready to work on a national car project. However, decisions regarding who partners will cooperate in this project still have to wait.

It is known, President Prabowo stated that the government has started the first steps to present Indonesian-made cars in the next three years. Prabowo said that he had allocated factory funds and land for the production of cars made in Indonesia.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this is not an achievement, but we have started to getrintis. We will have a car made in Indonesia in the next three years," Prabowo said in October.
