MotoGP Extends Thailand Grand Prix Contract Until 2031

JAKARTA MotoGP announced the extension of its contract with the Thai Grand Prix at Chang International Circuit, Buriram, until 2031.

The new deal means the two sides will continue to work together for the next five Grand Prix, starting in 2027.

"The Thai Grand Prix has been an important part of this market since its host debut in 2018 and will continue to play an important role in line with MotoGP growth," MotoGP wrote on their website.

Previously, the contract between the Thai Government and Dorna, a company that has rights to the championship, was scheduled to expire after the 2026 season race.

The announcement also ended speculation that Thailand would not continue to hold MotoGP and wanted to shift their focus to F1 races.

The Governor of the Thai Sports Authority, Dr. Gongsak Yodmani, said that Thailand's Grand Prix race was more than just a race.

"This is a strategic tool that drives the economy through sports tourism, produces direct and indirect economic value in all sectors of tourism, hospitality, transportation, and supply chains," he said.

Carmelo Ezpeleta as CEO of MotoGP said that racing in Thailand always presents a very different atmosphere. In addition to the stands that are always full, additional entertainment at the location of the race has always been an attraction in itself.

"Thailand and Southeast Asia are key to MotoGP. Our sport is already popular with a large number of viewers and there is still a lot of potential for us to develop even further," he said.

Thailand will return to its opening series in the 2026 season. The race calendar there is scheduled to take place from 27 February to 1 March 2026.
