Upbit Indonesia Welcomes Bank Indonesia's Initiative to Issue a Digital Rupiah

JAKARTA - Upbit Indonesia welcomes Bank Indonesia's (BI) initiative to issue a national stablecoin, or digital rupiah, as a crucial step in strengthening Indonesia's digital financial ecosystem and realizing a more secure and inclusive digital economic future.

As one of Indonesia's licensed digital asset exchanges, Upbit Indonesia views the planned issuance of this national stablecoin as a significant milestone in accelerating digital financial transformation. The digital rupiah is expected to improve transaction efficiency, strengthen cross-border payment systems, and provide a solid foundation for innovation in the blockchain and financial technology sectors.

Upbit Indonesia COO Resna Raniadi stated that the issuance of the national stablecoin reflects Indonesia's commitment to building a more transparent, efficient, and robust financial system.

"This initiative not only strengthens public trust in digital assets but also paves the way for broader financial inclusion and digital innovation across various sectors," she said in a written statement on Thursday, November 13.

Upbit Indonesia believes that the digital rupiah will have a tangible impact on various stakeholders, both individual investors and institutional players. For retail investors, the presence of a national stablecoin will provide a gateway into the digital economy and mitigate the risks often associated with crypto asset volatility.

Meanwhile, for institutional players, including fintech companies and financial institutions, the digital rupiah can be utilized to accelerate transaction settlement processes, reduce operational costs, and facilitate a smoother and more frictionless integration of traditional financial systems with digital technology.

As a licensed digital asset exchange supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Upbit Indonesia consistently prioritizes compliance, investor protection, and public education. Upbit also remains committed to supporting Bank Indonesia and other regulators in creating a sustainable and secure digital asset ecosystem through transparent operational practices and ongoing literacy programs.

"We believe that collaboration between industry players, regulators, and financial institutions is key to realizing a robust digital financial ecosystem in Indonesia. As a trusted platform, Upbit Indonesia is ready to contribute to opening a new chapter in the growth of Indonesia's digital economy," explained Resna.

By supporting this initiative, Upbit Indonesia affirms its role as a strategic partner to regulators in promoting regulatory clarity and the maturity of the digital asset ecosystem, moving towards a future where innovation and investor protection go hand in hand, building Indonesia's digital financial frontier.
