Puan Attends 11th MiKTA In South Korea, Alludes To Peace For Palestine And Sudan
JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani attended the 11th Mikta Speakers' Consultation forum in 2025 in Seoul, South Korea. On that occasion, Puan mentioned the issue of world peace, including for Palestine and Sudan.
The 11th Mikta Speakers' Consultation Forum for the 11th MiKTA Parliament was held in Seoul where this year South Korea acted as host, Wednesday, November 12.
Puan was a speaker at the first session of the 11th Mikta Speakers' Consultation to discuss Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in Peace Development and Humanitarian Assistance.
The discussion refers to the theme of the first session, namely Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation on Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Assistance.
"Let me start by realizing how hard this moment is. Around us, competition between superpowers is increasing, the use of force is normal, and space to hold back is getting more fragile," said Puan in a written statement, Wednesday, November 12.
MIKTA itself is a group of middle power countries consisting of Mexico, Indonesia, South Korea, Turkey, and Australia. Meanwhile, the Mikta Speakers' Consultation is a consulatory forum between the Speakers of Parliament members of the MiKTA. Puan's presence was an invitation to the state agenda.
The 11th Mikta Speakers' Consultation is chaired by the Chairman of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, HE Woo Won-shik, who holds the chairmanship of the MIKTA parliament this year.
Puan then touched on the long-running humanitarian issue in Palestine, until the recent Sudanese conflict.
"In this situation, the consequences of humanity in Palestine, Ukraine, Sudan, Yemen, and in other parts of the world are not news that is far from the main topic, but demand that we immediately take concrete steps and resolve them," said the grandson of the proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia.
While on the Korean Peninsula, Puan said the challenge was different, namely regarding the risk of escalation, not the number of victims. He considered that MIKTA members must strengthen crisis management and build trust.
"This reality reminds us that our first instincts must be de-escalation and credible dialogue, not the last resort taken too late," said Puan.
Puan added that parliament is not an observer in the development of peace. According to her, parliament is turning commitments into laws, budgets, and oversight that make peace lasting. "Our role is to ensure that mandates and resources are in line with reality on the ground, not patterns that are forced from afar," she said.
In terms of peace building, Puan emphasized that inclusion must be built from the start. Local communities, women, and youth are said to have to help design, implement, and review peace development programs.
"This can strengthen legitimacy and reduce the risk of repeated crises," said Puan.

In addition, Puan assessed that the funding plan is also important, including long-term and inclusive budgeting as investment in resilience, which allows institutions to withstand shocks. According to him, these efforts must be anchored to the virtues of the multilateral system and respect for international law.
"The PBB remains the architecture center for global peace development, and our parliament must strengthen its role through laws and ongoing contributions to this system," continued Puan.
Puan also reminded that humanitarian aid must respect neutrality, imparity, and remain free from political, economic, or military agendas. He considered that aid must also be guided by an independent and need-based assessment and approved by the affected countries, by fully respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity.
"Finally, the MIKTA parliament must act together. We must advocate for access without barriers and inselective delivery, while rejecting aid weapons," said Puan.
"As a legislative institution, we must turn this commitment into action, through stronger supervision, clear accountability, and predictable funding that ensures our diplomacy is translated into protection and recovery in the field," continued Puan.
