Perry Warjiyo: Redenomination Of Rupiah Takes Time And Careful Preparation
JAKARTA - Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo emphasized that the rupiah redenomination plan, which simplifies the nominal value of currency by reducing three zeros from IDR 1,000 to IDR 1, is not yet a top priority for the central bank.
According to Perry, BI's primary focus remains on maintaining the stability of the rupiah exchange rate and stimulating national economic growth.
"Regarding redenomination, of course, we are currently more focused on maintaining stability and stimulating economic growth," he said during a working meeting with Commission XI of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Wednesday, November 12.
He added that the redenomination process requires time and thorough preparation, so its implementation must also consider the right timing.
"Redenomination requires more time and preparation," he emphasized.
However, Perry did not explain what indicators would be used as a reference in determining the timing of the policy's implementation.
As is known, the discourse on redenomination has resurfaced after Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa issued Ministerial Regulation (PMK) Number 70 of 2025 concerning the Ministry of Finance's Strategic Plan for 2025–2029.
In this regulation, the Ministry of Finance targets completion of the Draft Law on Changes to the Rupiah Price (Redenomination Bill) in 2026–2027.
"The Bill on Changes to the Rupiah Price (Redenomination) is a draft bill planned for completion in 2027," quoted from PMK 70/2025.
