Florence Pugh: Midsommar 6 Months Of Stress!
JAKARTA - Actress Florence Pugh admitted she didn't want to take on a role like Midsommar, the film that made her a household name in the film industry. She felt the role was stressful, even after filming wrapped.
Midsommar tells the story of Dani (Florence Pugh), who follows her lover on a mysterious journey, which leads her to encounter various strange events.
In a recent interview, Pugh revealed that the emotional toll of filming took on her mental health. As a result, she suffered from depression for six months.
"I couldn't tire myself out because it had that effect. I think Midsommar made me sad for six months afterward, and I don't know why I was depressed," Florence Pugh said in a podcast with Louis Theroux.
"I came back from shooting Little Women, which was a really fun and completely different experience from Midsommar, so I put everything aside," she said.
However, when she returned home after filming Little Women, she returned to her sadness, which she attributed to Midsommar.
"When I got home for Christmas, I was depressed and thought, 'Oh, this is because of Midsommar,' and I didn't deal with it, so I didn't think I could do it again," added Florence Pugh.
"I've never seen that level of grief or mental health. I've been through it. At first, I thought I'd heard the news that one of my siblings had died, and halfway through filming, I started thinking, 'No, I have to imagine the coffin,' and by the end, it was like I was going to a family funeral," Pugh explained.
Despite those feelings, Florence Pugh insisted they had nothing to do with Ari Aster as director. She even praised Aster for his clever direction in the film.
