Minister Of Human Rights No Comments Regarding The Title Of Hero Suharto

JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister (HAM) Natalius Pigai chose not to comment or comment on the awarding of the National Hero title to Indonesia's second president Suharto.

"Look, awarding Pak Harto, I am the Minister of Human Rights, the account comment, the point," said Pigai as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 11.

He was reluctant to comment regardless of the pros and cons in society regarding the title of hero Suharto. "No comment," he said.

In addition, Pigai explained that the Ministry of Human Rights did not provide any recommendations for becoming a hero. According to him, giving the title of hero requires a long process.

"If I'm not mistaken, the proposed hero came from the family in the hometown, then by districts, provinces, only conveyed it to the center, then there was a team that judged. So, if it's a matter, I don't think we have any, yes, never there has been," he said.

President Prabowo Subianto at the Jakarta Palace, Monday (10/11), conferred the title of National Hero to 10 figures who were considered to have contributed greatly to the nation and state, including Suharto.

Minister of Culture Fadli Zon who is also Chairman of the Council for Titles, Services, and Honors (GTK) emphasized that Suharto had fulfilled all requirements to be awarded the title of National Hero.

Fadli, in a statement received in Jakarta, Monday (10/11) night, said that the process of determining the title of hero to Suharto was carried out strictly, objectively, and transparently.

"All names proposed have gone through in-depth research and study by the Central Title Research and Research Team (TP2GP), involving experts across disciplines, as well as synergy between local and central governments," said the Minister of Culture.

He explained that Suharto's name had been proposed three times, including the previous proposals in 2011 and 2015. In this year's proposal, Suharto became one of the 40 proposed names for the title of national hero from the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf.

According to Menbud Fadli, the assessment of the honorary title involved synergy between local governments and the central government by including experts from various fields of science.
