Selfie Camera And Under Screen ID IPhone Delayed Until 2027
JAKARTA - Apple is rumored to be delaying plans for implementing an under-screen selfie camera and Face ID sensor until 2027, meaning the feature will only be present on the iPhone 20 Pro. If true, this also marks the end of the Dynamic Island era which was first introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro.
This latest rumor comes from the famous leaker Digital Chat Station, who wrote on Chinese social media platform Weibo that Apple's plan for the front camera under the screen for flat screen devices will be present in 2027. Engine translation makes the term strict board machine (flatboard engine) sound unclear, but most likely it refers to the iPhone Pro model with a flat screen.
Interestingly, the leaker also mentioned that Android phones will have similar technology at the same time. However, currently several Android devices such as the ZTE Axon and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series have used the under-screen camera even though the quality is still lagging behind conventional cameras on notchs or punch-hole holes.

So far, Apple still needs physical space on the screen (Dynamic Island) to ensure front cameras and Face ID sensors have direct lines of sight for sharper selfies and accurate facial recognition systems.
Previously, rumors emerged that the iPhone 18 Pro, which was released in 2026, would be the first device with Face ID under the scenes, without a hidden selfie camera. The information comes from analyst Ross Young from Counterpoint Research, who is known to be quite accurate in terms of leaked screen technology.
However, the latest report from Digital Chat Station now makes it clear that Apple still seems to need longer to perfect the technology "up to 2027" the pandemic ensures Face ID's image quality and security remains equivalent or even better than the current system.
