Two Corn Fielders In Dompu Killed By Lightning
JAKARTA - Five corn field workers in Matompo Hamlet, Moti To'i Village, Kempo District, Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara were struck by lightning while building a hut, two of whom died on the spot.
The Head of the Kempo Police, IptuJubaidin, confirmed the incident. He explained that all the victims were residents of Donggo District, Bima Regency.
"Two people died at the scene, while three others were successfully evacuated injured and are currently being treated by medical personnel at the Kempo Health Center," Jubaidin said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, November 11.
The police chief confirmed that the situation at the location was under control and his party assisted in the process of repatriating the bodies of two victims to the funeral home in Padende Village, Donggo District.
Two victims who died were identified as Sukrin and Iswadin, both residents of Padende Village, Donggo District. While the survivors are M. Ali (46), a resident of Bumi Pajo, Donggo District, and Muhammad Ridwan (24) and Mustaram (60), residents of Padende.
The head of the Kempo Health Center, Hermin Yunuarti, said that the three survivors are currently still under intensive medical treatment.
"The victim suffered minor to serious burns. Currently, all of them are receiving treatment in the emergency room," he said.
His party has been trying to provide maximum service since the beginning of the evacuation of victims.
"We have prepared a pick-up by ambulance, but due to extreme weather and the number of victims of more than one person, miscommunication occurred in the field," explained Hermin.
The incident occurred when heavy rain accompanied by lightning flushed the Kempo sub-district. Local residents who witnessed the incident immediately provided assistance and evacuated the victims to the nearest health facility.
