O Yeong Su 'Squid Game' Free From Sexual Harassment Cases
JAKARTA - The sexual harassment case linking actor O Yeong Su was canceled by an appeals court in South Korea. Citing Yonhap, the Squid Game star was acquitted of allegations of harassment that ensnared him almost five years ago.
Tuesday, November 11, Suwon District Court released O Yeong Su, canceling a court ruling found her guilty of sexually abusing a woman during a 2017 regional theater tour.
O Yeong Su reportedly hugged and kissed the woman's cheek without the woman's consent.
The woman who reported was said to have been seeking counseling regarding the incident and the actor apologized to the woman. However, the court also questioned the mistake related to the victim's distorted statement over time and stressed the protection of her at a time when doubts about testimony continued to emerge.
The initial verdict sentenced O Yeong Su to 8 months in prison, with a probationary period of two years. The prosecutor demanded a one-year prison sentence both in the initial process and in the appeal.
The victim also opposed the initial ruling by stating, "Even though there is a decision today, I will continue to voice the truth until the end," he said in a statement released through the Womenlink women's rights organization.
