DPR Forms A Panja For Improvement Of AMDK Industry Governance

JAKARTA - Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives will form a working committee (Panja) to handle recommendations for the Draft Drinking Water (AMDK) industry policy.

The decision was taken by parliament after holding a Hearing Meeting (RDP) with eight manufacturers related to the standardization of AMDK raw materials today.

The eight companies include PT Panfila Indosari with the drinking water brand RON 88; PT Amidis Tirta Mulia with the brand Amidis; PT Tirta Fresindo Jaya with the Le Minerale brand; PT Muawanah Al Ma'soem with the Ma'soem brand; PT Super Wahana Tehno with the Pristine brand; PT Tirta Investama with the Aqua brand; PT Sariguna Primatirta with the Cleo brand and PT Jaya Lestari Sejahtera with the Yasmin brand.

"Commission VII will form a panja on the AMDK industry to formulate policy recommendations regarding improving AMDK's industrial governance," said Deputy Chairman of Commission VII DPR RI Evita Nursanty when reading the conclusion of the meeting.

He also said that AMDK producers must communicate openly to the public about their respective product water sources honestly, transparently and accountably.

This was done in response to polemics and public questions about the water source used by Aqua some time ago, especially at a factory located in Subang, West Java.

Previously, issues related to the use of ground water by water producers with the Aqua brand surfaced after West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi or KDM conducted an inspection of the Aqua factory in Subang, West Java.

During the inspection, KDM found groundwater use in the production process.

The findings are considered contrary to Aqua's claim that so far it carries the image of 'natural mountain water'.

However, Danone Indonesia as the parent company of PT Tirta Investama, has clarified that Aqua water comes from deep aquifers in mountainous areas, not from 'usual bore wells'. They also said that the water collection process had received government permission and through scientific studies from UGM and Unpad.

Therefore, Commission VII of the DPR RI summoned the eight largest AMDK companies in Indonesia along with the Directorate General of Agro Industry and BSKJI of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) to provide an explanation regarding this matter.
