Government Attention For Volunteers Handling COVID-19 At The Athlete's Village
JAKARTA - Steven Stallone August had doubts before he decided to join as a volunteer for handling the corona virus or COVID-19 in Indonesia. He is one of the residents with a health background who feels compelled to help treat COVID-19 patients.
Steven's doubts were reasonable. When it comes to treating corona virus patients, he worries that his health will actually weaken. In fact, Steven could have caught COVID-19 from the patients he was treating.
However, he decided to still register as a volunteer. He was assigned to the COVID-19 emergency hospital Wisma Atlet, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta for one month.
After serving as a volunteer, worries about Steven's health faded. This is because the food intake for the volunteers is also considered.
"We are very well supported by the government. The food provided is guaranteed, and nutritious," said Steven in a press conference at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Tuesday, April 28.
"There are also several other facilities that we can enjoy apart from rest rooms, for example karaoke facilities, we can play table tennis, and play badminton," he continued.
Steven is a volunteer who enrolls in batch 7. He is registered as a volunteer after submitting administrative files. For example, a registration letter and approval from the family.
April 4 Steven arrived in Jakarta and was ready to carry out his duties. However, there are a series of examinations that he must undergo, ranging from medical check-ups, X-rays, to rapid tests before he is assigned to become a medical volunteer.
"Now, I am in charge of the HCU, where patients need more treatment and special attention. Starting from monitoring the patient's vital signs, his complaints, his illness, swab examinations, and some," he explained.
The importance of nutritional needs for volunteers was confirmed by one of the nutritionists, Lydia Gresari Br Sembiring. He is also a volunteer in the provision of nutrition for patients and medical personnel.
In carrying out their duties, Lidya and other colleagues who are in charge of providing nutritious food encourage medical personnel and volunteers to have maximum immunity. So, these nurses can optimally serve patients, both positive for COVID-19 and patients under surveillance (PDP).
"If for example the medical personnel are not paid attention to their nutrition, what do they want? They sacrifice themselves to go inside. That's where we are concerned with nutrition so that medical personnel and patients have their needs met," said Lidya.
