Toyota Stops Fortuner Sales In Australia Starting 2026
JAKARTA Shocking news came from Toyota Australia which confirmed it would stop the sale of Toyota Fortuner in mid-2026. This decision was taken after an internal evaluation showed that Fortuner's position in the market was getting smaller as consumer preferences changed in the Australian SUV segment.
Toyota Australia's Vice President of Sales and Marketing Sean Hanley explained that Fortuner still has a loyal group of users, but overall demand continues to decline.
Fortuner has been a good product for us for years and has a small but enthusiastic customer base. However, with a shift in consumer preferences in Australia, we made the decision to stop Fortuner," he said as quoted by Drive, Monday, November 10.

Throughout January to October 2025, Fortuner recorded 2,928 units sold. This figure is far from major competitors such as Ford Everest which reached 21,915 units, and Isuzu MU-X with a total of 12,499 units in the same period.
Toyota Australia also said that many customers who previously chose Fortuner are now turning to other models on the Toyota line. Even though it was stopped, Toyota assessed that Fortuner's travel in Australia remained to its original destination.
"Most of them returned to HiLux, or moved to Land Cruiser Prado and Land Cruiser 300," said Hanley.
We don't see Fortuner's time in Australia as a failure. Every product we market has its role. Fortuner plays a role we know it won't be the best-selling Toyota model," he continued.
Until now Toyota has not prepared a direct replacement for Fortuner. The company's focus is said to be pointing to strengthening other models that are considered more relevant to Australia's current market needs.
