F-PDIP DPR Receives Complaints Armand Maulana And Ariel Cs About Royalty Transparency In The Music Industry
The PDIP faction of the DPR received an audience with the Indonesian Voice Vibration Management (VISION) led by musicians Armand Maulana and Nazril Irham or familiarly known as Ariel NOAH at the Nusantara I building, the DPR's complex, Senayan, Jakarta.
In front of the Chairperson of the PDIP faction of the DPR RI, Utut Adianto, Armand and Ariel Cs submitted complaints and input regarding royalty transparency in the Indonesian music industry. According to them, transparency of royalties is still a serious problem.
Also present at the meeting were the Chairman of Commission V DPR Lasarus, member of Commission X DPR Once Mekel, and member of Commission VIII DPR Selly Andriany Change. Meanwhile, from VISI, apart from Armand Maulana and Ariel NOAH, Yuni Shara, Vina Panduwinata, and Judika were also seen.
"Come here to provide angle from the singer regarding the problem which is currently very viral for the music community. The issue of royalties, but actually this royalty issue, has narrowed apart from one year ago, it is still a lot wild," Armand said in an audience, Monday, November 10.
Armand then mentioned the royalty rules listed in the Copyright Law. He hopes that the Collective Management Institute (LMK) can operate more transparently to music industry players.
"This laziness regarding royalties, 2014 was ratified by the copyright law, it was previously very wild before that, even in the past there were many associations and foundations. It used to be confusing and quite chaotic because, like entrepreneurs, hotels, restaurants, cafes, karaoke, LMK-LMK can visit before the name LMK, think of it as LMK, it can be many times," he said.
In addition, Armand said there are still problems that singers often face when performing someone's songs. According to him, there is an assumption that singers must pay royalties to creators, instead of event organizers who should be responsible.
"Then the singer must pay not the organizer, it has been until now even though what we were talking about, I'm talking about there have been three big events from the government and from the DPR and so on have canceled all of them. It's still happening now, those are the singers we know or singers who have big names in Indonesia," explained Armand.

The Gigi Band vocalist also voiced his concern that this problem could have a broad impact and harm many parties, especially singers in the regions.
"Imagine the singers in the area, sir, ma'am, Pantura singers or maybe Mas Andi's friends from IPJ, the Street Singers Institute here who are already present. Many of these will be criminalized if this becomes a wild ball," he said.
Responding to the complaint, the chairman of the PDIP faction of the DPR, Utut Adianto, stated that his party would accommodate the aspirations of VISI. Utut emphasized that the problems related to this royalty must be taken seriously.
"We have to work seriously, this is a serious problem. In my opinion, we have to do this law as well as possible. Mba Selly and friends in Baleg. Because this is a lot of people involved and this is closely related to culture. The more culture we are, the smarter we manage as fairly as possible," said Utut.
